Shaft seal is mainly built of a metallic stiffening ring and a vulcanized sealing element. Shaft seals are used for example to seal the space between a rotating shaft and a static housing. Available in a variety of profiles and materials for different purposes.
Fluoroelastomer FPM (DIN ISO 1629) / FKM (ASTM D1418)
(trade name: Viton® Du Pont-Dow Elastomer)
Fluoroelastomer is suitable especially for use in high temperatures and it is highly resistant to oils, fuels and solvents. It is not recommended to be used with esters or ethers with low molecular weight, ketones or amines. Ideal for applications where other elastomers to wear out or deteriorate rapidly.
Warning! Burning FPM-elastomer forms toxic gas. Burnt FPM-elastomer must be treated like a corrosive media.
Max operating temperature: -18 +220 °C
Model A:
The most commonly used profile that is suitable for most applications. The rubber outer shell protects the surface of the housing from scratches when installed.
Model AS:
Like the model A, but with another so-called dust lip. Prevents dirt from entering the actual sealing lip. When installing, it is recommended to fill the space between the lips with a suitable lubricant.
Model AO:
Spring less design for cramped housing when no high demands are placed on the seal. Most often used in connection with a needle bearing.
Model ASP:
Like the model AS, but the actual sealing lip is shorter and supported. Pressure resistance range 1-10 bar. Usually used in hydraulic pumps and motors.
Model B:
Metal shell design that is easy to install but sometimes requires a sealant or o-ring to be used on the outer rim to prevent leaks.
Model BS:
Like B, but with another so-called dust lip. Prevents dirt from entering the actual sealing lip. When installing, it is recommended to fill the space between the lips with a suitable lubricant.
Model C:
Stiffer, metal shell profile.
Model CS:
Like the model C, but with another so-called dust lip. Prevents dirt from entering the actual sealing lip. When installing, it is recommended to fill the space between the lips with a suitable lubricant.
