Outer packaging refers to e.g. the cardboard box, which contains the sales batch of a product. The necessary markings on an outer packaging include product data as well as the marketer’s logo and necessary bar codes. Using an ink jet printer for marking these eliminates the need for the pre-printing and storaging of cardboard boxes, or the costs related to labels and the machines used to print and apply them. At the same time the production process and warehouse management are simplified. The surface of the outer packaging should be porous, such as burlap, plastic or cardboard.
